Meet the people we help
Since its start in 1984, Water for All has provided fresh water to about one million people in developing countries. Here, a few of them share their stories.
Uganda
Regan Okec and his family live in the village Angole Laro, in the Pader district in northern Uganda. Regan tells that during the dry seasons the village water well completely dries up and the family gets ill on a regular basis due to water related diseases. In the mornings, the children have to help to fetch water. This makes them late for school.
Thanks to the help from Water for All, Regan and his village got help digging a well. Reagan says the well has improved life for him, his family and the 158 households in the village.
“The well gave us new hope in life,” says Regan.
China
Water for All China, together with a partnering aid organization called Plan International, has initiated a water, environment and sanitation project to serve ten villages in northern China where harsh conditions have been made more difficult by water shortage. Without local access to clean water, children have a hard journey to collect water for their families.
A 12-year-old boy, Xiao Jun, is excited about the prospect of tap water. “I have to fetch water with my younger sister every day after school. Carrying a bucket of water tires us out. Now we will no longer have to walk far away to fetch water!”
