Third module of training - Soil conservation and environmental science

3rd - 7th May 2016

First day began with visit to Water and land Management Institute’ a pioneer institute of Government of Maharashtra at Kanchanwadi, Aurangabad. Jaldoots observed weather station, various flow measurement instruments, soil types, development of roots of various plants. Then classroom sessions were conducted on soil formation and soil conservation.

Visit to ‘Water and Land Management Institute’ which has highly appreciated study on land and water.

On second day visit was organized to Chitte River, where the river course is redefined. Later a field visit was planned to two villages Sindona and Pophala where jaldoots experienced actual improvement in crop production by soil and water conservation measures. Classroom session on soil, water, crop relation and soil conservation were also conducted.

Third day a visit to village Hivare Bazar in Ahmadnagar district was organised. The village was developed in last 25 years by implementing watershed development principals and set an example, also tanker free for last almost 20 years and nowadays a case study for various groups. Villagers measure rainfall every year and on the basis, they plan their crops. Classroom session was conducted by Pratap Pawar, who is an inspiration and the planner of all these initiatives and explained fundamentals of holistic rural development.

On fourth day, a visit was organised to village Jarandi Taluka - Soyagav, Dist - Aurangabad, where Jaldoots got exposure to modern irrigation practices like drip and sprinkler irrigation. Fields are irrigated by drip and sprinklers irrigation. They also shared their experience of increased production after changing the irrigation practice.

Fifth day was planned for presentations by jaldoots on their practical problems faced while working on ground and its probable solutions.  The time was allotted for two hours but the presentation and discussion was so self-explanatory and almost all jaldoots took part and expressed with their full involvement.

The third module of training on soil conservation was scheduled from 3rd to 7th May in Aurangabad.
