In April 2009, Sweden’s Water for All organization began the “Water Supply Around the Mission Project” in the Thyolo District of Malawi with the support of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).

With a donation of SEK 75 000 from Water for All, ADRA Malawi arranged to have wells dug in four villages around Malamulo Hospital in Makwasa. Here it is estimated that 17% of people are living with HIV/AIDS. The wells in Nkunda, Nkusa, Kaipsya and Samison villages are directly benefiting 4 355 people.

Moreover, in order to strengthen women’s position in society, each pump is administered by a “water committee” comprised of eight to 10 women.
