Sudan
The Swedish and Belgian Water for All organizations have contributed to the protection of springs and construction of five water wells in Lasu Pyam, Sudan.
Lasu Payam is located 20 miles away from Yei town on the Western part of Yei County, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 22 years of war in Southern Sudan have ruined the infrastructure, and the existing structure in Lasu Payam, to nothing. Lasu Payam has an estimated population of 8 000 people but the great number of refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo into Lasu Payam have doubled the population and caused acute shortage of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
Water for All has cooperated with the organization Community Action Water Program which has completed the protection of five springs, and construction of water wells, in this area. This has made it safer for the women and young girls in the village; they used to go very far to fetch water.
